What is VoiP

A major advance in Telecommunications was the introduction of VoIP.
It is possible to place and receive telephone calls using existing broadband Internet connections.  Including direct Indialing.
Offering such as unlimited calling for flat fees.  Especially advantageous for low cost international calls.
Phone calls between subscribers of the same provider are often free.

Because of the low costs that VoIP technology provides, businesses are migrating from traditional copper-wire telephone systems to VoIP, as a result substantially reducing their monthly phone costs

Unified communications means all communications—phone calls, faxes, voice mail, e-mail and web applications can all be delivered via any means and to any telephone, including mobile phones.

VoIP allows both voice and data communications to be run over a single network, which can significantly reduce infrastructure costs.

Maintenance is simpler as there are less devices to maintain

More than one telephone call can travel over a single broadband connection.

Number portability allows users to select a VoIP provider without requiring a new number to be allocated.

VoIP phones can connect directly to the IP network using such as wired Ethernet or wireless Wi-Fi.
Telephone adapters allow conventional analog telephones to be connected. Some gateways have this function built in.

A softphone is an application that can be installed on a computer that is equipped with a microphone and speaker, or headset.

Smartphones and Wi-Fi enabled mobile phones may have SIP clients built in or available as an application download.

Issues that a professional VoIP Provider will be mindful of are :

    • Use of international standard protocols
    • Quality of Service (QoS)
    • Latency (delay) and jitter
    • In the event of power failure, routing of calls to other telephone services, such as mobile phones
    • A VoIP phone or adaptor is necessary to connect to a VoIP service provider.
